Fiber Greens, reformulated

Everything you loved. Nothing you didn't.

Same greens. Same one scoop. A fiber that dissolves clean instead of setting like glue in the glass.

Why we changed it

The old fiber worked. People just stopped drinking it.

You know the routine. Stir a scoop into water, then race to get it down before it thickens. The clumps that never quite dissolve. The gritty layer stuck to the bottom of the glass. Eventually the tub moves to the back of the cabinet, and a fiber in the cabinet does nothing for anybody.

That thickening was not a flaw in the old formula. It was the mechanism. Bulking fibers work by soaking up water and adding mass, so gelling in the glass is exactly what they are supposed to do. It is also exactly why they are a chore to drink.

"The old version used the fiber everyone knows. It worked, but it gelled. It clumped. People told us they dreaded drinking it. And when people dread something, they stop, and then it does nothing for them at all. So we went looking for a better kind of fiber."

Joe Barton, founder of Barton Nutrition

The new fiber

A fiber that feeds instead of bulks.

The base is Fibalance™, a soluble fermentable fiber. It fully dissolves in water and does not form a gel, so it reaches your gut intact and becomes food for your beneficial bacteria.

Overhead close-up of finely milled pale sage green FiberGreens powder filling the frame, loose and dry with individual granules visible.

Here is the elegant part. The reason it does not gel is the same reason it feeds your gut. This fiber has been broken down into smaller soluble pieces. Those pieces are too small to gel, and being small and soluble is exactly what lets your gut bacteria ferment them.

In studies of the human gut, Fibalance™ acts as a prebiotic, feeding beneficial bacteria like Bifidobacteria and Lactobacilli and increasing the short chain fatty acids those bacteria produce. One of those, butyrate, is the fuel the cells lining your gut actually run on.

Research describes the ingredient. Individual results vary.

The glass test

Same water. Same ten minutes.

Stir a serving of each into a glass, walk away, and come back. One sets like glue. The other is still a drink.

It only works if you drink it.

So it had to be worth drinking. Green apple, crisp and clean, never candy sweet.

A glass of mixed FiberGreens on a kitchen counter in daylight. The drink is a cloudy muted green with fine particles suspended through it, not a clear beverage.

One honest note

It is not a clear beverage, and it should not be.

Hold a mixed glass up to the light and you will see fine particles suspended in it. That is the greens half of the formula, and it is what real vegetable and fruit matter looks like in water. A greens powder that mixes to a perfectly clear liquid has very little in it.

What you should not see anymore is a gluey layer at the bottom of the glass, or a drink that thickens while you are looking at it. Fine particles are the food. The gel was the problem.

Three fibers, not one

Different bacteria eat at different rates.

Three fibers feed a broader range of bacteria and ferment at different speeds, for gentle steady support rather than one big burst.

Fresh Jerusalem artichoke tubers, the knobbly tan sunchoke root that supplies the inulin fiber in FiberGreens, on a plain off-white surface.

Jerusalem artichoke inulin

700 mg. A classic prebiotic fiber that ferments slowly and steadily further down the tract.

Pale amber translucent acacia gum resin nodules beside a mound of the fine cream-coloured acacia powder used in FiberGreens, on a plain off-white surface.

Acacia gum

500 mg. One of the gentlest fibers available, well tolerated even by people who react to most others.

Whole green guar bean pods beside a mound of pale cream powder, the plant source of the Fibalance soluble fiber that forms the base of FiberGreens, on a plain off-white surface.

Fibalance™

4,000 mg. The base of the formula. Dissolves completely and feeds beneficial bacteria without gelling.
